Gauntlet Warbirds operates two Decathlons, a 1979 Bellanca Decathlon and a 2005 Super Decathlon. The legendary aerobatic pilot and instructor Duane Cole once called the Decathlon "the best aerobatic trainer available." The Decathlon can take a pilot from zero tailwheel time to flying in aerobatic competition through the Sportsman level. Customers can fly Gauntlet Warbirds' Decathlon solo once they complete the basic aerobatic course or demonstrate equivalent proficiency.
The Decathlon has a 150 horsepower engine with a fixed pitch propeller which the Super Decathlon has a 180 horsepower engine with a constant-speed propeller. Both the Decathlon and the Super Decathlon are stressed to six positive and five negative Gs with full inverted systems.
